Judo is practiced by wearing a Judogi and a belt to hold the Judogi. The colour of the belt changes according to the rank.
The ranks are:
White belt
Yellow belt
Orange belt
Green belt
Blue belt
Brown belt
Black belt for the 1st DAN, 2nd DAN, 3rd DAN etc…
In order to upgrade his rank, the Judoka must have passed an examination with his professor who will judge if the pupil deserves or not the coveted belt, and win a specific number of fights during the competitions.
The pupil passes several examinations until he obtains the blue belt. The brown belt is more difficult to obtain because it is necessary to pass the first three series of the Nage No Kata (
Te Waza, Koshi Waza, Ashi Waza). Two other series are needed to pass the black belt (
Ma Sutemi Waza, Yoko Sutemi Waza).
