The ranks are: In order to upgrade his rank, the Judoka must have passed an examination with his professor who will judge if the pupil deserves or not the coveted belt, and win a specific number of fights during the competitions.

The pupil passes several examinations until he obtains the blue belt. The brown belt is more difficult to obtain because it is necessary to pass the first three series of the Nage No Kata ( Te Waza, Koshi Waza, Ashi Waza).
